Perla Lopez Baray began her journalist
career in the Southwest while studying Journalism and Mass
Communications at New Mexico State University. Her passion for
journalism began at a young age in Mexico, her native country, where she
entertained herself interviewing her family with her grandfather's
camcorder.
Even though Perla has been in the United Stated for several years, she
has never forgotten her Hispanic roots and has always reflected a great
interest in helping the Hispanic community. As a student at NMSU, Perla
was awarded for her participation in the production, direction and
presentation of a Spanish News segment during the half hour of an
English newscast. Her qualities caught the attention of KLUZ-TV, an
Univision affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she worked as a
reporter and fill in anchor.
For Perla, it was very difficult to leave her family and friends back in
the Land of Enchantment, but the opportunity to be part of the only
Spanish Edition in Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey brought
her to Allentown, where she plans to promote education and the richness
of the whole spectrum of the Hispanic culture in the region.
When Perla is not working, she likes to read, sing and practice winter
sports.
