Kathy, a
graduate of Boyertown High School and the American School of
Broadcasting - Georgetown (Washington, DC), was one of the first
full-time employees of WFMZ.
Kathy was the host of the popular WFMZ-FM 6am "Inspiration At Dawn"
program for many years, as well as being involved in sales, local news,
and community events coverage for the station.
It was a natural for Kathy to "cross over" into television in the
mid-70's, as WFMZ-TV was born. During the formative years of Channel 69,
Kathy was called upon to be the weather person (can you remember when
the weather cube fell on her?). Her news responsibilities also included
covering everything from accidents to murders. She has also done
celebrity interviews with Barbara Mandrell, Celeste Holme, Lou Rawls,
Larry Holmes, Jerry Van Dyke, and Al Martino, to name a few. She was the
co-host of the first Parkettes Telethon along with WPVI's fellow
weatherperson Dave Roberts. She has donated her time to the Sertoma Club
fund-raiser auction, the Easter Seals Telethon, the Cancer Telethon, and
other TV fundraising events for local cable TV companies.
As WFMZ's "Goodwill Ambassador," Kathy became the first woman member of
the Sertoma Club (SERvice TO MAnkind), and became the local
organization's first President, then CEO.
Dedicated to the community, Kathy is a board member of Mercy Day Care
Center, Boy Scouts Annual Food Drive, and lends her talents to the local
SPCAs, the Easter Seals Society, Camelot House for Children, and Good
Shepherd Home.
