The controversy over new voting machines isn't going away quickly.
Counties across Pennsylvania have gotten the green light to go ahead and buy new electronic voting machines. In fact, they have to buy them. But some concerned voters in Northampton County are saying "No paper, no proof, no way." Thursday night they took their case to members of Northampton County Council. WFMZ's Joscelyn Moes was there.

Nat: --Dr. Alan Brau
There's no such thing as a free lunch and sometimes when you take the bait in these situations you're getting something different than what you want.

Lehigh Valley physician and member of the Coalition for Voting Integrity...Dr. Alan Brau...says he's not willing to bet on his ballot this upcoming election.
--Dr. Alan Brau
These machines may work. They may be ok. But I think we as voters have a right to really make sure.
Reporter
Thursday night Brau addressed Northampton County Council with some of his concerns about the new electronic voting machines...concerns including accuracy and reliability.
-Brau
If and I don't want to say when these machines break down we want to have some backup record so we don't go through this whole expensive process of running a campaign, holding an election, election day comes along, the machine breaks down. Then what do we do.
Reporter
Brau brought along Lehigh University computer science and engineering professor Daniel Lopresti to talk about security concerns.
--Daniel Lopresti
I don't want to say that you shouldn't ever consider using electronic voting systems. I think rather there are flaws and weaknesses that are not well understood at this point in time.
Reporter
Where it stands right now...Northampton County officials have been told their new machines may not be delivered in time for the May 16th primary.
In that case...they would use the old lever machines.
But county officials say they're doing everything they can to comply with state and federal mandates.
--Deborah DePaul
Is there anybody here that does not pay taxes. And you do not not pay taxes because you are supposed to pay taxes basically that is what position I am in today with regards to putting voting machines out there.
--John Stoffa
Lever machines are unconstitutional. We cannot use them. A paper ballot we cannot use. There's only one choice left.
