One Tank Trip: Red Deer Farm
Every once in a while you'll spot deer on a hike, but you don't usually get very close. Just beyond Berks, there's a place with an unusually close view of a certain kind of deer. WFMZ's Karin Mallett takes us on tonight's One Tank Trip to the Red Deer at Rolling Hills Farm

  >> REPORTER: It's a hay ride like no other.

>> LLOYD GEORGE: I try to make it lively.. ha ha.

>> REPORTER: Hop on the wagon and Lloyd George and his wife Dolly will take you on a ride and share their knowledge of nature.

>> DOLLY GEORGE: Different terminology and that deer don't have horns.. they have antlers. You know.. so.. laughs. (it's very action oriented) You never know what you are going to find or what you are going to see.

>> REPORTER: You're in the middle of the herd at the Rolling Hills Red Deer Farm in Columbia County, near Catawissa. Where the red deer really aren't deer at all- they are part of the elk family.

>> LLOYD: Might have a fight, might have a fight, gritting his teeth.. see his tongue coming out.

>> REPORTER: There are 380 red deer on the farm with about 25 calves. And the friendly ones love attention.

>> LLOYD: People can pet them, some you can touch their antlers, others won't let you.

>> REPORTER: The treats will bring them right up to the back but you got to give it a little push, otherwise he won't be able to eat it. Here you go- good boy.

>> LLOYD: See they have no teeth on the top, they have no teeth so if you don't push it in a little it.. it's going to fall out.

>> REPORTER: They breed here for the venison business but some of the first red deer on the farm were bottle fed and have names.. like Bob. Bob's pretty friendly but Lloyd says he doesn't trust any of them in the rut season.

>> LLOYD: The meanest one I have, he chased me around the wagon twice last year. Only 600 pounds, half elk, 16 points. I always tell the ladies if you have a problem with a certain male, for $6,000 we can take care of that, one lady thought that was cheap.

>> REPORTER: Trying on my own antlers on a One Tank Trip to Rolling Hills Red Deer Farm in Columbia County, Karin Mallett 69 News Berks Edition.
