Five Officers Shot, Two Suspects Killed In Shoot-Out



Five police officers were shot and two suspects were killed during an exchange of gunfire in Jersey City, New Jersey this morning. Two of the officers were critically wounded. Police say one was shot in the face and the other was hit in the neck by shotgun blasts as they tried to enter an apartment with other officers to arrest two suspects.[

Mayor Jerramiah Healy says a "terrible gunfight" erupted, with shotgun blasts shattering the door and wall. When the bullets stopped, two suspects were dead. Their names have not been released. Officials say the other three wounded officers suffered non- life-threatening wounds. Officials say some other officers were injured.
Healy says the incident began around 5:00 this morning when police spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with an armed robbery. Healy says as officers approached two people, one opened fire on a patrol car before fleeing into an apartment.
