One Tank Trip: T&D's Cats Of The World
You don't have to go far to find a place Tarzan would have loved to call home. It's a safe haven in Snyder County for animals that have nowhere else to go. WFMZ's Karin Mallett takes us on a tour of T and D's Cats of the World in tonight's One Tank Trip.

 >> REPORTER: On the side of a windy road in Penns Creek, Snyder County.. you'll find a home for the unwanted.

>> JEN MATTIVE: The animals are the innocent ones.. And the more you work with them and animals that are mistreated and abused in some way, the more you don't like people.

>> REPORTER: T & D's Cats of the World is a family run exotic wildlife refuge. Jen Mattive is part of that family and our tour guide.

>> MATTIVE: We always say our guys here are the lucky ones because they found a home. A lot of these animals that are people's pets get put to sleep because there's no where else to go.

>> REPORTER: A little more than 200 animals are spread out on 35 lush acres where the vegetation is allowed to grow.. and the residents are encouraged to be themselves.

>> MATTIVE: We feel its very important that if the animals don't want to come out and see you today that's their choice and a lot of facilities don't give the animals that choice, they kind of force them to be seen.

>> REPORTER: Although the 60 cats here are the obvious draw.. you'll also find monkeys and coyotes.. and animals you may have never heard of.. patagonia caveys, koatis and binturongs. And along with the usual.. you'll learn a tidbit or two you'll definitely want to repeat.

>> MATTIVE: They also smell like doritos, fritos, buttered popcorn, warm bread. They kind of have a unique odor to them so they're pretty neat little guys.

>>REPORTER: This is probably the noisiest spot in the place. These birds would like you to know they'd like some attention.

>> REPORTER: It's in sharp contrast to the low rumble you'll hear coming from Cat Country. Jen tells us you can hear a lion's roar from 3 miles away.

>> MATTIVE: One of the comments that we get here is that people say wow you can get close.. safely.

>>REPORTER: Just be sure to watch your fingers..

>> REPORTER: Trying my best to blend in on a One Tank Trip to T & Ds Cats of the World in Snyder County, Karin Mallett 69 News Berks Edition.
