GOP's Robert Mensch Wins PA Senate Seat Special Election

>> REPORTER: It's September but voters in parts of the Lehigh Valley and Bucks and Montgomery Counties headed to the polls to take part in a special election. They had to pick a replacement for State Senator Rob Wonderling.. who quit in July for a job with the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Republican Robert Mensch.. Democrat Anne Scheuring and Libertarian Barbara Steever were all on the ballot to represent the 24th district. After the polls closed, Republicans gathered at the East Greenville Fire House in Montgomery County to cheer on Robert Mensch. Mensch said it was a hard fought campaign.
>> ROBERT MENSCH: We set our plan. We stayed to it and I think we'll ultimately be victorious because of it.
>> ROBERT MENSCH: We didn't take anything for granted. There wasn't one vote that we left on the table.
>> REPORTER: Democrats gathered in Landsdale to support Anne Scheuring.
>> ANNE SCHEURING: It's been long and exciting and hopefully rewarding.
>> REPORTER: And while preliminary numbers seemed to indicate otherwise for Scheuring she thanked her staff and supporters.
>> ANNE SCHEURING: My campaign staff was fantastic. They worked from day 1. It was a compressed campaign and we were booked morning to night everywhere we could get to.
>> REPORTER: Despite a low voter turnout across the area Mensch said it's clear his supporters still came out.
>> ROBERT MENSCH: Yes it was a special election. It's an off day. But the Republicans came out in great force and for me that's a relief.
