One Tank Trip: Mast Farms Corn Maze
At one popular autumn stop, the motto is "where you are lost, laughing and loving it." WFMZ's Karin Mallett takes us just beyond the Berks County border in this week's One Tank Trip to the Mast Farms Corn Maze

  >> REPORTER: Thirteen acres of corn.. but its not the kind you'll eat off the cob. Instead you'll need your walking shoes.

>> RHONDA MAST: We have people that get lost and they get desperate sometimes and our staff have to help them find their way out.

>> REPORTER: There's close to 4 miles of trails in the corn maze at Mast Farms.. just one mile west of Morgantown in Caernarvon Township, Lancaster County.

>> ERNEST MAST: We're planning it pretty much year round.

>> REPORTER: The design comes first.. and with a view from above this one honors firefighters.. then in May, the corn is planted. But the main crop on the farm is actually potatoes.. Farmer Ernie Mast tells us the Atkins and South Beach diets 10 years ago weren't so great for business.. so he started to think out of the box and in 2001.. cut his first corn maze. 8 years later.. the no-carb fad has faded a bit..

>> MAST: And everyone's back to eating potatoes again and things are better now so we got potatoes and the corn maze.

>> REPORTER: To ensure an enticing maze.. the corn here is planted not in rows.. but strategically. Instead of rows, the corn is planted East, West, North and South.. so it crisscrosses. Leaving you in the middle of a corn forest.

>> MAST: It depends how directionally challenged you are, if you can get through it.

>> REPORTER: Once you find your way to the exit.. you can head over to the hay jump... with a big pit of soft straw... There's a hay ride.. and zip lines.. where beds of straw break your fall. A petting zoo.. where the llamas are curious. A straw mountain with tunnels.. And in a nod to the main crop here.. the potato slingshot.

>> MAST: Everybody leaves with a smile on their face, so it makes me feel good.

>> REPORTER: Living the autumn adventure on a One Tank Trip to Mast Farms, Karin Mallett 69 News Berks Edition.
