Coast Guard-Marine Rescue Effort Now A Recovery Mission

The three-day search for victims of a mid-air collision off the southern coast of California is now officially a recovery mission. One of the victims, Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason Moletzsky, 26, (right) is from Norristown, Montgomery County. He was aboard a Coast Guard C-130 airplane that collided with a Marine Corps helicopter on Thursday.[ NEWS RELEASE ]
Moletzsky's father says he knows what his son was up against and he feared the worst for his son, but also hoped for the best.
"I flew C-130's also," said John Moletzsky. "Pretty much, with the little bit of details we had, I wasn't very optimistic. But you know you always hope for a miracle."
Seven people were on board the plane. Two people were on board the AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter.
The Coast Guard says there's not much chance of finding anyone alive after searching more than 644 square miles of ocean.
