Candidates Cast Ballots In Race For N.J. Governor
The hotly contested and closely watched race for governor is headlining the ballot in New Jersey. Incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine and Republican challenger Chris Christie have been running nearly even in the polls, with independent Chris Daggett attracting enough support to have an influence on the outcome.  Many cameras were on hand this morning to capture pictures of Christie voting in Mendham and Corzine casting his ballot in Hoboken.

The only other race for governor in the country this Election Day is in Virginia.

Voters in New Jersey are also choosing 80 members of the state Assembly, two state senators and mayors of cities including Camden, Atlantic City, and Hoboken. Also on the ballot is a $400 million open space referendum.

In Pennsylvania, voters will be awarding a hotly contested open seat on the state Supreme Court and filling a half-dozen vacancies on the Superior and Commonwealth courts.

The Election Day showdown between Republican Joan Orie Melvin and Democrat Jack Panella for the state's highest court follows a campaign that generated more than $3 million in contributions. Both candidates are sitting judges on the Superior Court -- Panella in Bethlehem and Melvin in Pittsburgh.

There are also several municipal races on the ballot, including mayor of Allentown; Lehigh County executive; the Berks County coroner, prothonotary, and treasurer; and several seats on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners and the Northampton County Council.

The polls in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be open until 8:00 tonight.
