Light Turnout Of Voters Expected At Area Polling Places
Voters are trickling into polling locations around the region. The races on the ballot include that for governor of New Jersey, mayor of Allentown, executive in Lehigh County, and coroner in Berks County.

POLLS OPEN IN PA & N.J. UNTIL 8 PM.

>> REPORTER: I talked to the poll workers inside and they were pleasantly surprised with the turn out here. Since the polls opened, they've had about 120 people come through and they say they're on target for a 20% turnout. No one was expecting a major rush, but both parties here in Berks made a strong effort leading up to today.

>> MILLER: I've only ever missed one election because I was sick.

>> REPORTER: Toni Miller is the kind of dedicated voter that both democrats and republicans were counting on and targeting for this election.

>> HERMAN: We've had thousands of phone calls made. We've knocked on thousands of doors.

>> REPORTER: The chair of the Berks County Democratic Party says all of that outreach was meticulously calculated.

>> HERMAN: You're looking at precincts and areas of the county that are persuadable. That the folks generally don't vote one way or the other, but vote independent and often switch their votes between parties.

>> FICK: We believe the Republican voters are energized and if we see bigger numbers we think we're going to have a good result.

>> REPORTER: For Berks County republicans, the primary targets are their own party members.

>> FICK: We've made probably I would say close to three or four thousand calls, at least at this point to voters to make sure we get our base out, at least, to vote in the election.

>> REPORTER: And the voters out today got the message that even though this may be a so-called off year...it's an opportunity to be heard.

>> PLEDGER: You start at the local level and work your way up.
