Surprise In Williams Twp. Supervisor's Race
There was one big surprise out of Tuesday's elections...George Washburn. He won the race for Williams Township Supervisor. His name wasn't even on the ballot but he had a lot of friends who were happy to put it there for him. WFMZ's Bo Koltnow has the story.

>> REPORTER: Turns out George Washburn was the write choice to become a Williams Township Supervisor literally.

>> GEORGE: A lot in the township got involved in politics.

>> REPORTER: Washburn received 48% of the vote in Tuesdays election as a write in candidate. Friend Kathy Lilley was one of hundreds who waited up to 90 minutes just to sign Wasburn's name to the ballot.

>> KATHY: In Williams Township it shows the current local government does not have a pulse on the community.

>> REPORTER: Washburn's win not only highlights what a so called underdog can do with a rally of community support but it could also represent a change in the fabric of local politics here in Williams township.

>> REPORTER: Washburn along with Lilley is active within "The Committee to Save Williams Township". A group who opposes expansio of the Chrin Landfill. Washburn also alleges current supervisors of having secret meetings. He wants a more transparent government.

>> GEORGE: If everyone understands why decisions are made, how made, we can live with that decision.

>> REPORTER: Current Supervisor Sally Hixson says she's looking forward to shifting from yard work to township work with Washburn. She says there are no deep, dark secrets in the supervisors closets.

>> SALLY: Once a supervisor he'll see there are both sides of a story.

>> REPORTER: Washburn says future talks of a Chrin expansion hinges on current litigation. But he promises not matter what happens the public will hear about it.
