Parking Space Dispute Could Cost District A New Stadium

>> REPORTER: Wednesday night the Union Township planning commission says it's all about parking. Right now the school has 603 spots. The school district needs to meet the law that says there must be 435 spots for the school's staff and students. And an additional 600 spots, or one spot for every 3 seats in the stadium. Sounds simple, but is it possible.
>> REPORTER: If you ever attended a Daniel Boone home football game you might have had to walk a bit.
>> Bruce Monteiro: People park where they have to park people walk from Birdsboro people park in the neighborhoods if this is a parking issue have police cite people tow people do whatever they have to do.
>> REPORTER: Athletes are forced to play on a field that has drainage problems. The quarterback's father who is thinking about the safety of his son tried to explain to the board why the ordinance for the parking wasn't necessary.
>>MONTEIRO: If we share parking with the high school and we say the high school is not going to be in use when the football is going on we now have 600 spots we now meet your ordinance.
>> REPORTER: The chairman speaking for the board said, No. >>Chairman Donald Basile: Our job is does it meet the ordinance if it doesn't meet the ordinance it's not going forward.
>>Dr. Gary Otto, Superintendent DBSD: We were not under the impression that we would need to put 400 spaces extra in when we began the project but again that's all part of the process we have to see where it's all going to finally going to land.
>> REPORTER: The superintendent says the school district will speak with the school board and the people in charge of surrounding parking lots to see if something can be done.
>>Renee Peusey: Daniel Boone School District can not afford to build more parking spaces for a couple football events it'd be a shame to waste that money.
>>REPORTER: And some parents say they wish the township would consider the big picture.
>> PEUSEY: All the surrounding school districts have upgraded their athletic complexes and make it more appealing to go live in those school districts and I think the value of the homes in Daniel Boone are going to suffer people aren't going to want to live here.
>> The next meeting is set for the first Wednesday of December. The school district says it will be back with a response.
