The Future Looks Bright For The Bachmann Publick House
The future of Easton's historic Bachmann Publick House looks a little brighter. The 250 year old tavern and court house once attracted our founding fathers to Easton. Today it sits empty, but its new owners say, not for long. WFMZ's Stephanie Esposito reports.

>>REPORTER: It's the oldest building in Easton the Bachmann publick house.

>>  So much of the building is original structure.

>>REPORTER: That alone makes it a gem but it's said that the tavern downstairs and court room upstairs once attracted John Adams, Ben Franklin and other founding fathers....which some say makes it a national treasure.

>> many of our early court proceedings took place in that building

>>REPORTER: The Bachmann house has changed hands multiple times. In 1990 it endured a $1 million restoration project...going from this...to this.... But attempts to turn it into a tourist attraction failed.

>>  it's time to see the historical society do something with it.

>>REPORTER: Fast forward to today. After years of debate...

>> i would urge my colleagues not to sell the property

>> We have no control over how it's preserved.

>>REPORTER: Northampton County Council voted to sell the Publick House to the Northampton Co historical society and Lafayette college for a dollar.

>> Congratulations on your owning the bachmann house.

>> take good care of it. please.

>> this building just fits with our mission which is preserving the past, serving the present and shaping the future of northampton co.

>> I know lafayette college is looking into educational programs for the two store fronts on second street.

>>REPORTER: They don't have any specific plans for the building just yet...but it will no longer sit empty.

>>I think its an asset to easton it's another place to stop.
