Historic Mill Project Opens After Eight Years Of Work
A landmark in Bethlehem has a new look and a new mission. The Illick's Mill Partnership has spent nearly a decade restoring the historic mill. Now, members are getting ready to begin educating the community about the importance of preserving the environment.  >> REPORTER: For the last 9 years, Liberty High and Bethlehem Vo-Tech students have been breathing new life into the historic Illick's Mill in Bethlehem. The walls, the floors, the entire building has come a long way since the Illick's Mill Partnership Project began.

>> We are really at a turning point. It's almost as if this project is starting again. >> REPORTER: Executive director Karen Dolan says the now that the mill is almost fully restored, student volunteers are focusing on the next phase of the project.

>> We're changing to programming and projects to teach the community and the youngest members of our school district the importance of protecting and caring for the environment.

>> REPORTER: Dolan and the students are working on grants to pay for teaching supplies, computers and transportation costs for field trips to the mill. It's the kind of can-do thinking that raised a million dollars to cover construction costs and helped students learn what it's like to work in a business atmosphere.

>> KRISTINA PIELLER: You gain a lot with all the community service that you do and working with people. I actually decided to become an accountant as a major for college.

>> REPORTER: Once everything is completed and the grants written, Illick's Mill will have a community room, a classroom area, a stream science center and a new role in the community.
