Six Hurt, One Killed In Reading Shootout
One person is dead, and six are recovering after a Sunday morning shooting in Reading. Police say it happened at an after-hours club on the 500 block of Schuylkill Avenue. They are calling it a speakeasy. WFMZ's Jackie Shutack has more from Reading.

[ 11/8/09 Report: Are Speakeasies a Problem in Reading? ]  >>  REPORTER:  We have learned the name of the victim, he is 28-year-old Richard Gonzalez, and he is from Maryland. Police say he was in town visiting friends, partying at an illegal after hours club, when shots broke out just after 3 this morning. 

>>REPORTER: Bullet holes puncture the windows and evidence markers litter the sidewalk outside of this building on the 500 block of Schuylkill Avenue in Reading. The scene of a horrific shooting spree just after 3 Sunday morning. 

>>DISTRICT ATTORNEY JOHN ADAMS/BERKS COUNTY: "We have one person dead and six people wounded, and that's quite a catastrophe. 

>>REPORTER: Police estimate that roughly 100 people were inside the establishment when the shots rang out.

>>SGT. GUY LEHMAN/READING POLICE DEPARTMENT: The first shots inside the club tended to push people out and then shots outside pushed them back into the club.

>> >>REPORTER: Police say there were multiple shooters. One person was killed, 28-year-old Richard Gonzalez, of Prince George's County, Maryland. Police say the 6 others who are hospitalized are all men in their 20's. 

>>SGT. GUY LEHMAN/READING POLICE DEPARTMENT: It was a party that was getting spread around word of mouth and people just showed up there, the relationship between everyone is unknown.

>>REPORTER: Police gathered evidence throughout the afternoon, including this gun. 

>> SGT. GUY LEHMAN/READING POLICE DEPARTMENT: No weapon was recovered as far as I know that's relative to the shooting, we found some toy guns in the area, nothing that was used in the shooting.

 >> REPORTER: Authorities say this establishment was a speakeasy, an illegal after hours club. 

>> SGT. GUY LEHMAN/READING POLICE DEPARTMENT: This particular place was a problem earlier, we had closed it down, and it wasn't a problem for a long time, now it's started up again.

>> REPORTER:  Authorities say the owner of the building is from New York, they are trying to track him down. Police worked all hours of the night on this shooting, as news circulates that there may be major layoffs in this department. There are no suspects at this time. Reporting in Reading, Jackie Shutack, 69 News.
