>>REPORTER: Belvidere NJ's has honored its Veterans of the World Wars, the Korean war, Vietnam, and Iraqi Freedom. Tuesday night, they read another name.

>> It's an honor for them to place my sons name on the wall despite the fact that he wasn't killed in combat he was serving in active duty and he deserves to be there.

>>REPORTER: Mayor Charles Liegel Senior's son, Army Staff Sergeant Charlie Leigel Junior was killed in an arson fire back in 2007.

>> We're hoping justice is served.

>> at Rutgers he joined the rotc and earned his airborne wings.

>>REPORTER: The trial of his accused killer ended last week in a hung jury. A new trial date is expected soon.

>> Cj trained with the 2174th military police unit in horsham PA

>>REPORTER: But tonight it wasn't about the way in which he died....but the way in which he lived.

>> He had so much to give to the army and he could light up a room when walked in. He had that personality. To have his life cut short like that is particularly difficult.

>>REPORTER: Staff Sergeant Liegel joined the United States Army in 1997, he was 17 years old.

>> What a dynamic soldier he was. Very locked on, very responsible. An elite soldier.

>> His last assignment was with the United States Joint forces command where he provided security for an Allied Commander General Lance Smith of the US Air Force.

>>REPORTER: Now Staff Segeant Liegel's memory will be forever etched in stone in the center of his town. A memory that will never be forgotten.
