Police, Bomb Squad Take Care Of Explosive Situation
Police and bomb-disposal technicians in Montgomery County had their hands full Friday night and Saturday morning, after a man was hurt in an explosion Friday afternoon. Police were called to a home on Deep Creek Road in New Hanover Township just after 1:00 p.m. Friday, for a reported shooting incident.

Upon arrival, officers found a 36 year old man with injuries to his face and a hand. Various chemicals were also found inside the home.

Following the blast, the man - whose name has not been released - was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Officials did not have an update on his conditon as of Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

After he was taken care of, the Montgomery County Sheriff Department's Bomb Squad was called in to dispose of the chemicals.

According to a sheriff's department officials, when the chemicals are mixed, they can become explosive.

Disposing of the chemicals meant detonating them, which made it a long night for nieghbors in New Hanover Township.

NEIGHBOR (unidentified): "I heard explosions...my house shook once last night."

DUNCAN DEVORE, NEIGHBOR: "...Starting, I guess it was around 6:30 - 7:00 (p.m.), something like that...we started hearing a sequence of explosions over the next four or five hours, until 11:30 (p.m.), and I think the total number was seven."

The bomb squad finished off its work with at least another reported blast Saturday morning.

Officials did not identify the chemcials, or divulge what the injured man was doing with them.

The FBI, ATF and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office are investigating.
