No "Rocky Road" for Giant Ice Cream Cone on the Move
Crews in Wernersville "dished out" quite a sight this morning. A giant ice cream cone that's long been a part of the borough's charm stopped some folks in their tracks and caused a flurry of activity. WFMZ's Melissa Batulis has the scoop.

  >> Reporter: Forget the spoon, this ice cream took a fork lift. >> Burkhardt: It's a big day for us. We've been waiting to move for quite a while. >> Reporter: After weeks of preparation, the owners of the Wertz Ice Cream Cone in Wernersville watched as movers scooped it up onto a truck to move it to its new location just a few blocks away on Penn Avenue. >> Burkhardt: This has been a long process. They worked tremendously to remove the foundation, dig out the dirt, elevate the cone. >> Reporter: It was the opposite of the usual serving style. The ice cream had to be taken out of the cone and moved separately. Still, it was quite a treat for the eyes. >> Becker: I came here a lot to eat ice cream and I just would love to see it move. >> Reporter: And after all of the pieces were frozen in place, the caravan ala mode started down the street. >> Shermick: The highway's going to be a better location for it because some people didn't know it was back here. >> Reporter: By this afternoon, the cone was in its new home, but there is still one more move to be made. A foundation will need to be dug and concrete poured on the other end of this lot. But the owners say by February it should be in place and back open for business. >> Burkhardt: Hopefully it will continue to be more visible out on 422 and Wernersville will just come back to the cone. >> Reporter: In Wernersville, Melissa Batulis 69 News Berks Edition.
