Truckers Rally in Harrisburg After Protest Convoy



As gas prices continue to rise, some truckers rallied at the Capitol in Harrisburg today in protest. They say the hefty prices are taking food off their table...and yours. WFMZ's Karin Mallett has more from today's rally. >> REPORTER: From the streets in downtown Harrisburg it was hard to miss- >> nats of horn >> REPORTER: Add in the horns- >> nats of horn >> REPORTER: and even if you couldn't them- it was hard to hear them. >> Ron Wenger: We had at least 140 trucks, enough to circle the blocks of the capitol here and there was a lot of noise wasn't it? >> REPORTER: But frustrated truck drivers fear they are still being heard by those who can make the change. >> Ronald Hobbs: The truckers are mad- we're out here running for nothing. >> nats of rally >> REPORTER: Organized by a few Berks County drivers - a rally on the capitol steps in Harrisburg hoped to draw attention to rising fuel prices. >> Mark Kirsch: They need to get it off of wall street- that's the main issue. there's no reason for the unregulated trading. >> Hobbs: These oil companies had record breaking profits these last two years- so there's no reason for this - they are bankrupting America. >> Standup: Will work for food or fuel. It's the mantra we've heard over and over again here in Harrisburg. Truckers who say they can no longer afford to drive. >> Vic Desrosiers: Now you have a choice- do you give your kids breakfast or do I put gas in the car to go to work? >> REPORTER: Vic Desrosiers says he spent $70,000 last year in diesel fuel. In Berks this week- it's more than 4 dollars a gallon. >> Desrosiers: I have to shut my truck down three days a week because I can't afford to put another tankful of fuel in there and lose money. >> Wenger: We're all paying for it- it's time everybody jumps in and does something about it. >> nats of horn >> REPORTER: In Harrisburg- Karin Mallett 69 News Berks Edition.
