Peregrine Falcons Lay a Third Egg Atop PPL Building
Perched high atop the PPL Tower in Allentown, they have a birds eye view of the city. But now a pair of peregrines are the ones being watched. You see the rare birds are expecting. WFMZ's Joscelyn Moes has the story.  They've made the PPL Tower in downtown Allentown their home. And now a pair of peregrines are about to become parents.

Tiffany Hineline: I see em sometimes flying.

Anita Beard: I live right around the corner and I never even knew that.

Phil Sweeney: I think it's pretty cool.

In 1995 PPL started a project to release rare birds into the wild.

Jeff Luzenski: We released captive bred peregrine falcons from the tower building.

A few years later Jeff Luzenski stopped releasing and started looking for birds returning.

Jeff Luzenski: We've been waiting basically since 1998 to see something return.

Last year this pair swooped in. Last week Luzenski peeked through the pigeonholes at a nesting platform and spotted an egg.

Jeff Luzenski: I was quite happy to see an egg laying there for the first time in 10 years.

Now there are three eggs. Luzenski is excited to have a birds eye view of history in the making.

Jeff Luzenski: In the Lehigh Valley according to the Game Commission there's never been a peregrine nest and in Pennsylvania it's been like 50 years.

PPL employees are also keeping a watchful eye on what happens more than 20 stories up.

Lissette Santana: We all feel like proud aunts and uncles.

The eggs are expected to hatch around Mother's Day. In Allentown ... Joscelyn Moes ... 69 News.
