Father and Son Bike to Florida for 'Autism Speaks' Charity
A trip to Florida...it's always a popular vacation. But a father-son duo are making the trek on two wheels. And they're doing it to raise awareness about Autism. WFMZ's Bo Koltnow has their story.

  >>Reporter: The maps are memorized, bags are stuffed, the gear...is out. The bikes are set to spin. >>Nick: looking forward to it, anxious to get on the road, peddling. >>Reporter: 45-year-old Ben Ferenchak and 20 year old son Nick are hours away from a 3 week, 1500 mile trip. Leg power will peddle them from Catasauqua to Jacksonville Florida. >>Nick: I'm a little nervous but we got some heart and we'll do fine. >>Reporter: The ride is more than just father son bonding. >>Ben: Hoping to raise money and raise awareness. >>Reporter The duo is riding to raise $10,000 for Autism. >>Ben: It's a shame all the kids getting Autism, wanted to find a cure and cause of it. >>Reporter: The journey will honor 16-year-old cousin Bradley, who is inflicted with Autism. >>Reporter: The inspiration came from Bardley's sister Jennifer, who was killed in a car crash last January. >> She's our angel, and the support from family and friends of those who knew her. Everyday something different. >>Reporter: Only two weeks ago, Ben got the news he has Parkinson's. Emotion he says will help carry him through... Wife Holly offers a last minute boost. >> When you heard what did you think? Crazy, it's a long haul. >>Reporter: Ben's brother in law will follow the two in a donated truck, hauling their supplies. Hotel chains have offered free rooms. And maybe the trip will grab the attention of another rider, who has some pull in worthy causes. >> I hope not, we can't keep up with him. >>Reporter: Luckily it's not a race, but a father son crusade of awareness.
