It's that little square can that makes some cringe and others crave. Love it or hate it, Friday night Spam was at the center of a creative competition at FirstEnergy Stadium. WFMZ's Melissa Batulis has more. 


  >> REPORTER: When it comes to snacking, fans of the R-Phils do not share the same fondness for Spam. >> OBERLY: Do you eat Spam? No...no. >> VAN LEER: No. >> DEABLER: Not even a Spam sandwich? No. >> REPORTER: But make it an art project and sprinkle in a cash incentive...and folks gobble it right up. >> WEINGARD: Have you ever carved Spam before? No, but I've eaten it. >> REPORTER: As part of a fund raiser for The Opportunity House, R-Phils fans forked over five bucks for a can of Spam and some carving utensils. >> VAN LEER: The money's going to a good cause so it's alright and I get to play with my food. >> STAND UP: This is not the first time Spam has been the inspiration for creativity. There's a Spamobile...Spam festivals, like Spam Jam and Spam-a-rama. There's even a Spam spa. >> REPORTER: Here...there were Pagodas...a gold fish...a Spam Castle...and much more. >> DEABLER: I attempted a covered bridge. >> WEINGARD: It's sort of like a cube thing, like one you would find in an illusion book. >> REPORTER: But in the end, a closer-to-home concept and an eye for detail was the winning combination. And Spam sculptor Sheila Moll and her R-Phils ball cap clinched the 100-dollar prize. >> MOLL: My son gave me his book and I thought baseball helmet . Then I used these letters here. >> REPORTER: And while this greasy glory lasted just a moment...this is an experience that will linger. >> OBERLY: Kind of want to take a shower. >> REPORTER: In Reading, Melissa Batulis, 69 News Berks Edition.
