Man Hospitalized, Dogs Injured after Explosion at Kennel in Carbon County
Dozens of dogs, including several show dogs, were inside a kennel when it burst into flames. 15 dogs made it out, some with severe burns, but another 15 weren't as lucky. We're told the explosion at Pazzazz Boarding Kennel near Lehighton happened after a propane delivery Friday afternoon. In addition to all those injured animals, officials say the driver of that propane truck was flown to the hospital with severe burns. WFMZ's Dwayne Parker was at the kennel right after this event unfolded. The images shown in this video could be considered graphic.  Several of these dogs killed in this explosion were top show dogs. Others were so scared they ran for the Pennsylvania turnpike. The owner of the kennel says she's simply devastated. We should warn you that the video you are about to see is graphic.

KAREN TRACEY: 17.30.05 I love them, that's why I have a kennel, I love dogs.
>> DWAYNE PARKER: And many of Karen Tracy's beloved dogs are gone. Around 2:30 her dog kennel, Pazzazz Pet Boarding on Pohopoco Drive in Franklin Township, Carbon County, exploded. 15 of the 30 dogs housed in her kennel were killed in the explosion ... several of which were recently featured in the Westminster Kennel Dog Show.
>> KAREN TRACY: 17.29.44 It doesn't matter that they were show dogs, it hurts because they were my dogs.
>> KAREN TRACY: 17.29.48 And people trusted me with their dogs to take care of them. ..(sniff, wipe the hands)
>> DWAYNE PARKER: The explosion happened after this AmeriGas truck was filling up the kennel's propane tank.
>> NAT: HELICOPTER >> DWAYNE PARKER: The driver of propane truck was flown to a burn center with serious injuries.
>> ROGER FISHER: 16.59.54 Burned as bad as he was, the driver caught one of the dogs and threw him over the fence.
 >> DWAYNE PARKER: While the kennel continued to smolder...
>> NAT: 17.06.06. We'll those three should go.
>> DWAYNE PARKER: The newly formed Carbon County Animal Rescue Team or CART scrambled to treat the severely burned dogs. This was their first rescue mission.
>> DONNA CRUM: 17.34.01 I think for the first time out we did really good, everybody worked together, and I'm glad the CART program came around like it did. >> DWAYNE PARKER: CART reports that the dogs that earlier made a dash for the woods and the Pennsylvania turnpike, were all recovered. A big relief for Karen.
>> KAREN TRACY: 17.30.13 It's just amazing the people that came out to help.
Several dogs were boarded at Pazzazz while their owners were on vacation. But since the kennel's records were destroyed in the flames, it may be difficult to contact the owners.
